University of Houston Indoor Football Practice Facility
The University of Houston partnered with D.E. Harvey to construct a new indoor football practice field in February 2016. The $20 million dollar project boasts an 80,000-square foot, football-specific facility and comes with a high-tech video board, remote-controlled cameras, and a 120-yard turf surface. There is an additional 25,000 square feet used for practice drills and classrooms. Harvey enlisted Karsten Interior Services to install the metal framing, drywall and acoustical ceilings which began in November 2016. With a crew of 24 employees, the structural engineering challenges of building a fifty-four foot freestanding partition and furring ensued. Additionally, over 80,000 square feet of abuse resistant drywall was installed. The projected concluded in September 2017.
